    May 13th, 2026

A few days shy of a month before I’m home for the summer and as I look back on this time I’ve spent, I’m reminded of God’s goodness and provision.

Today I read the passage in Matthew where Jesus commands that His followers should deny themselves, pick up their cross, and follow Him. I wouldn’t dare claim I’ve followed this command, but this past year I’ve learned a little bit about what this means.

I remember that when I first became His, I lost a whole lot- friendship, approval, and a whole laundry list of sins I rather enjoyed practicing. And even now, I’ve lost parts of the life I had before I came here.

from where I’m standing I feel like I may never get there. But he who called me, us, is faithful. He will complete the good work he began with us.

Though there are a lot of blessings, there have been a lot of, let’s say, lessons. And boy have they humbled me.

Although I’m only a wee little girl, I’ve become an absolute pro at replacing the gas for the ancient water heater and stove systems. I promise I know how to get the water back and running on the tap when it stops, just don’t ask me about it. When the electricity turns back on, I Usain Bolt my way to those outlets to replenish my power bank like my life depends on it (it doesn’t).

I’m learning how to speak and act in a culturally appropriate manner; when I pass that lesson, I’ll let you know—no certificates yet. And as far as the whole “grocery shopping in a different country” thing goes, all I can say is: praise God for dirt-cheap food delivery.
